Doctors, lawyers, engineers, cricketers are some of the career options that runs through a student’s mind aspiring for a bright career. There are very few who would think of becoming an insurance agent. A vocation that would occur last on a brighter career aspiring mind, isn’t it? Quite often a comparison is made between a salesman and an agent.
But now thanks to the changing face of the insurance sector, which is becoming fast paced and growing at a high-speed, this career is no longer, a dull profession as it looked once upon a time. This profession has become a lot more challenging and gives you a lot of flexibility wherein you are not tied up to a job that asks you to stay in office from 9am-5pm. The best part is that you can decide your own salary. A simple formula that works well to move up the success ladder-work more to get more.
Since the time India adopted privatisation and private insurers were invited, the world witnessed a changing face of insurance in India. Insurance, today is fast paced and being in the profession is at par with any other. Being an LIC agent is no more a boring profession, as one would think it to be. It is now more challenging and exposes you to better opportunities like deciding your commission, perks, etc.
To become an LIC agent, one would need to be atleast 18 years of age with a minimum qualification of 12th standard pass. The person would need to get in touch with the Development Officer. The Branch Manager will conduct an interview, and if found suitable, will be sent to training at Divisional/Agency Training Centre.
The training is for 100 hours and covers all aspects of Life Insurance Business. After successful completion of training, the person will have to appear for Pre-Licencing examination conducted by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA). After the successful completion of the examination, the individual will be awarded a Licence by the IRDA to work as an insurance agent.
The Branch Office then appoints the individual as an agent and you will be a part of the team under your Development Officer (D.O). The D.O will impart you field training and will help you to understand the depth of the profession. It’s an uncomplicated process to become an LIC agent.
Remember this profession is a noble one. When the main earner of the house is no more and you have people queued up for bills, an agent would come to your rescue and extend financial aid when every helping option seemed to have failed.
